A friend and a gift showed up at my doorstep a few days ago and I instantly fell in love when I went to open the box and there rest a beautiful embossed message imprinted on the box that encapsulated the essence of it all without ever having to lift the lid. It read, “It’s What’s On the Inside That Counts”. Don’t you just love the way Anthropologie packaged that little beauty of a saying?!
Isn’t it interesting how the word “inside” can go in so many different directions. It can be everything from the:
Inside of our lives
Inside of our minds
Inside of our bodies
Inside of our shoes (just checking to see if you are still reading. I can’t be the only crazy one who looks inside their shoes before putting them on. Maybe you haven’t been as lucky as me to find a spider in yours – putting on shoes will never be the same!)
Inside of our hearts
Inside of our intentions
Inside of our thoughts
Ultimately, it always comes back to what we are “feeding” all the parts of our insides. It is each of our own individual choices that is a reflection of what is on the “inside” of us. As much as we want to point the finger at something outside of ourselves, it has nothing to do with one single external factor out there. It all rests with us and our own individual choices.
I didn’t even have to lift the lid of that box to know the good, kindness and love that is in the heart of the giver. She oozes it and I thought that is what it’s all about and has absolutely nothing to do with what is inside this box. Although, I do have to say the pretty little tea towel, measuring spoons and bowl bestilled my heart! Absolutely darling and I can’t wait to use them for the upcoming Biscotti Share Class (date to be announced soon)!
So I thought as we all get ready to embark on this holiday season of gift giving (for those of you who are already done with your shopping, I will politely (with the kindest of intentions) stick my tongue out at you and blow a big fat raspberry kiss and quickly remind myself that there is still plenty of time with 7 1/2 weeks to go, slight panic sets in), wouldn’t it be nice to pause for a second and think about what is on the inside of each of us and how we can gift that to others in what we choose for them this holiday season. Gift them the good, the kindness, the love, the humor, the joy, the caring, that is all simply bottled and wrapped within you. Now go share and spread your “inside” gifts! It’s my mantra for this month, my favorite month of the year, because it’s the month of being thankful and grateful and the wild-n-crazy Taylor family “Thanksmas” event! (and because I’m counting the days until I get to meet my first grand-nephew!).
As always, you can find more at Sharing Our Life, Love and Food. Look forward to seeing several of you this Friday at our “Super Soul” Share Class/ Happy Hour. If you haven’t already, you can RSVP here. We have a full house so should be a lot of fun!
P.S. Y’all know I can’t get by without sharing a random tangent so speaking of “insides” – I can’t even begin to describe what I witnessed this past weekend having three little vacuum cleaners plowing through an enormous mountain of candy that made its way into our house this weekend. I don’t ever recall seeing so much candy in my life. Man, can they put it away, it was quite impressive… You know they’ve had too much when you get in the car the next afternoon and within five minutes, they are all passed out cold, faces plastered against the windows, drool and all! I am sure they will be thrilled that I shared that all with you but the visual was something that instantly put a smile on my face with a shake of the head and the thought – oh to be a kid again!
