When inspiration hits, it’s something pretty magical. Not sure how many recognize it when it enters into your life but it actually will take your breath away when it happens and you will feel it pulse through your veins up and down your entire body. It is the simple act of listening and trusting that small inner voice within that wants to reach out and give you a lift and point you in the right direction.
Last evening sitting at the United States Olympic Training Center with my daughter who is participating in the USA Basketball u17 Trials, the Director played a song to a large group of us parents and athletes of a montage of infamous Olympic moments just before sharing the mission of USA Basketball – Play, Passion and Purpose. It took everything in me not to go into the ugly cry. I always get choked up seeing real, authentic, raw emotions that the Olympics bring out in athletes after all their hard work, drive and determination. Needless to say, I held myself together and got through it but the song, I thought, says it all in so many ways.
Whether you look at it through the lens of sports, friendship, life in general, or the much broader perspective of community – the message was powerful beyond belief.
We all must “Rise Up” in our lives especially when we are broken down and tired of living life on a merry-go round. The two suicides that struck our school and community last week were heart wrenching beyond belief but like the lyrics say together we can “move mountains” if we “walk it out”.
We rise up each day and we will do it thousands of times, high like the waves, in spite of the ache, we will rise up. We will take the world to its feet and move mountains. We’ll rise unafraid and rise up. All we need is hope, and for that we have each other and we will rise.
I don’t think there is any better message in this day and age about togetherness and the power of community. We are in desperate need of it, long for it and thrive in its full conditions.
As you walk out in life today, “Rise Up”. Let it be your personal mantra of rising to be the best version of yourself, to go and help others, to be in this world together, to move nothing but mountains.
Take a listen yourself and I hope it gives you the same inspiration! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNKu1uNBVkU
Rise up and do it a thousand times again whether it’s in life, sports or living.

“Promise we’ll take the world to it’s feet
And move mountains
Bring it to it’s feet
And move mountains
And I’ll rise up
I’ll rise like the day
I’ll rise up
I’ll rise unafraid
I’ll rise up”
