When your children speak up and tell you something that matters to them, pay attention. It most often times will speak to your heart as well. This is exactly what happened in our household last night.
My daughter came up to me last night and mentioned that Pink had just given the most amazing acceptance speech and went on to tell me all about it. My internal alarm went off and I made a mental note to take a look at the speech this morning.
Powerful it was. These are the words that stood out: “So, baby girl, we don’t change,” she continued. “We take the gravel in the shell and we make a pearl. And we help other people to change so that they can see more kinds of beauty. …And you, my darling girl, are beautiful. I love you.”
What a beautiful and powerful message: Don’t change. [Let’s help others] “to see more kinds of beauty”. We all are “pearls” in our own right.
I now understand why this touched my girl’s heart in a way that made her voice it out loud and I have to presume that she saw herself in Pink’s little girl as she too can easily look around and not see anyone else like her (6’5 red headed girls are few and far between). I would call that the rarest of “pearls”.
Hope this message touches your heart too.
To all you beauties out there, let’s start our week “seeing more kinds of beauty”.
